Lollapalooza Events

Posted on: August 18, 2011

Lollapalloza 2010 brings three days of music and fun to Grant Park, including a variety of special events and promotional areas throughout the park. In addition, many Lollapalooza afterparties and after-hours shows featuring festival performers spring up throughout the city, hosted in local venues after the festival has closed.

Fans who hope to meet their favorite artist will want to check in at the f.y.e. Tent, an autograph booth that will be set up within Grant Park. Schedules for the f.y.e. Tent will not be announced early enough for pre-festival planning, but will be available at the beginning of each day of the event. Check in when you first arrive to the park, and you'll be able to get detailed info on what artists are scheduled to spend some time signing autographs and visiting with fans on each day. http://www.lollapalooza.com/in_the_park/activities/index.php

Food and beverage vending will be hosted at Grant Park in the Lederhosen's Biergarten and Chow Town areas. Lederhosen's Biergarten provides a perfect place to take a break in the shade and enjoy quality ice-cold craft beers including Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Becks, and more. Chow Town will be set up at two locations--on the north and south ends of the park--and will offer a wide variety of dining options. A full menu of what will be offered at Chow Town locations is now posted at lollapalooza.com. http://www.lollapalooza.com/in_the_park/activities/chowtown.php

In the park, the Kidzapalooza area brings a schedule of classes and activities to delight young festival-goers. A fully detailed schedule of Kidzapalooza events is currently posted at lollapalooza.com. Events will include classes in music and dance subjects, educational art projects, comedy, workshops presented by Paul Green's School of Rock All Stars, opportunities for faux tattoos and punk rock hairstyle makeovers, and more. Perry Farrell is also scheduled to visit Kidzapalooza on Friday and Saturday afternoons. (Children under the age of ten can attend Lollapalooza free of charge. A ticket ticket-holding adult is allowed to bring several children along with them to the festival grounds).

The Lollapalooza Art Market area will be expanded this year, thanks to the addition of 35 acres to the Lollapalooza festival grounds. All Art Market shops sell stylish sustainable and fair trade goods in keeping with the festival's vendor guidelines that put a great emphasis upon offering "green" and socially responsible wares.

Playstation, State Farm, Adidas and other corporate sponsors will also be set up in the park, providing amenities (State Farm will be hosting a free baggage check service), hosting contests, and presenting exhibits. Non-profit organizations such as Parkways Foundation will also be presenting special projects and exhibit areas.

Lollapalooza After Parties

Chicagoland usually plays host to quite a few Lollapalooza after-parties (official and non-official) during the festival weekend, many featuring more intimate performances by artists performing at the fest. Some of these parties are not zealously advertised, due to concerns about city officials stepping in and shutting them down due to zoning or fire code concerns. To stay current on emerging part plans, it's a good idea to start running google searches shortly after the formal Lollapalooza schedule is announced (June 8th of this year). Common venues used for afterparty shows in Chicago include Congress Theater, House of Blues, Double Door, The Metro, Schubas, Lincoln Hall, and Empty Bottle. A good place to start your search for information on Lollapalooza afterparties is the "Lollapalooza 2010 - Preshow/Preparty/Aftershow/Afterparty" thread on the message board at lollapalooza.com http://discuss.lollapalooza.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=819865&mpage=1
